Leo – Fee Fi Fo Fum

One of the best electro rarities that I've heard. I also have a sneaking suspicion that this could be the sample base for something I've heard recently although I can't place it. Perhaps something outta the Stones Throw/Dam Funk/Tony Cook camp, but not sure. If it isn't, it's certainly right in the same vein. Or, perhaps I'll dust off the sampler and get to producing my daughter's new LP. Laugh out loud. This one doesn't seem to turn up too often and doesn't make the usual rounds in the electro circles. Could be that this was only on 45, and as most electro records were released on 12 inch to the DJ communities back in the day, this particular jammie flew right under the radar. I'm only posting the vocal version, but the instrumental is a complete monster as well, so you should seek it out. Few folks know about this one, so if you search now, perhaps you'll find a copy before the price escalates. If this is your cup of tea that is.

This post marks our 66th post so far this year. We've already exceeded our quota for the year. We're not even half the way through the year, yet we've matched the amount of posts we've done for the previous years. We're well on our way to double what we've done previously. So, we're doing good. And, if you agree, we haven't been slipping on the quality either.

There's no sign I'll be letting up anytime soon. So, it's gonna continue to be a fruitful year. Happy Spring to you. ENJOY!

Nexus - Stand Up (Instrumental)

Although I really like the vocal version of this song, I had to up the instrumental for the fans of quality electro and proto-house music. It's a really great tune and stands well on it's own without the vocals.
I'm usually a fan of italo tunes with vocals yet, I notice a lot of DJ's that play this kind of italo usually side with the instrumental versions. Sad because sometimes the vocal version have such clever melodies and usual approach. Again, this has been a big point of mine, but you'd have to have an interest in slightly off components in vocals. The italo touch on vocals usually means heavy accents and mispronounced English. Something I've truly grown to absolutely LOVE.
Another thing that is so incredibly great about italo like this, is that even though it's raging hot disco, super slick funk, and banging soulfulness... it's so devastatingly the undeniable 'roots' of new wave.
The snappy rapid fire kick drum brings to mind the proceeding New Order jam 'Blue Monday'. The piano sets the cloud gliding mood like an unreleased Scritti Politti song. That constant arpeggiated synth rests this tune in the electro hall of fame for sure. Just a nice tune. One that I've been wanting to around to posting. One for my fans of italo disco!

Van Twist - Hot Wax

Seems we're on instrumentals at the moment. This is a good thing. Especially when sizzler hot tracks like this are loaded into the barrel of the audio gun. I stumbled onto this track somehow, and perhaps I had the info or song title wrong, so I couldn't find it for the life of me. Now that I have, I share it with you. It's a relatively common record, when you have the proper title and name, just a little more rare when you don't have your shit straight. This is the b side to their version of Shaft which I will say is quite terrible. I believe the year is '84 and these cats put together some synth and bass lines and rounded it out with a bit of the ole cowbell. Nice. It's one of my favorite instrumentals at the moment and perfect for setting the mood at a outdoor dj gig, or summer bbq. Enter Van Twist.

Dwayne Omarr - This Party's Jam Packed

Damn man! I keep playing this tune out and nobody's feeling it. You are all complete suckas if your not feeling this shit. Can you fuckin' believe it? Not only rare as shit, but probably one of the best electro rap boogie jams known to man. So thick, and so rich. This shit seriously bumps. Hopefully it will find a home in your heart too. Maybe it has no place on the dance floor. At least maybe not in this era. But, I will continue to boogie, pop, and top rock to it regardless. Or, just wait it out like you know we all do until there's a small bit more of acceptance. Are cats just truly not ready for electro funk like this. It puzzles me. Maybe some folks just don't hear things like we do eh? Well, good for you and me.. cause I know you will go out and bump this shit somewhere. As a side note, I HAVE been told that I am too funky. Ha ha! Don't think that's gonna be a problem for me.
Dwayne Omar is a straight tripper, just look at the photo. But, be careful the photo is not related to this release. So, if your feindy for this 12" like I was, it's just a plain sleeve. But, I had to include this great photo of Dwayne. This 12" eluded me for a great while, and now that I have it.. it needs to be shared. Agreed?
